BBQ possibly moved to Sunday

Some updates for the BBQ/Speak Out event (http://occupyoakland.org/2012/03/first-bbq-community-event-march-17th-sign-up-to-bring-a-dish/) from Jade:

“since the weather is probably going to be bad, there are plans to show up at the event and let people know that the BBQ will take place sunday. this is tentative. there is another plan floating around about the medics training happening at 1pm, rain or shine, then again at 2:30 at corazon del pueblo. things are still a little up in the air i think.”

Keep checking occupyoakland.org for more updates, and we’ll also post what we hear!

Community Outreach with Occupy Oakland Cleanup Committee

Thank you to all of the wonderful people who showed up to this Saturdays park clean up. We had so much fun! We will be meeting every Saturday at the park on 32nd and San Pablo @ 10am to continue our efforts in neighborhood beautification. We would also like to invite people to join us for a potluck @ the park @ 1pm. Please bring food and music. Please spread the word to anyone who is interested in helping in any way with this wonderful project.

Except from an Occupy Oakland Cleanup Committee update:

The San Pablo Corridor Coalition, which conducts neighborhood beautification projects in West Oakland. Every Saturday at 10 AM they clean up the park at 32nd and San Pablo. They have contacts with the city, and they supply custodial equipment and they pick up the trash at the end of the day. This could be a good way to learn a little bit more about how neighborhood clean up actions take place.
I very much hope some of you can attend. Send me an e-mail if you’re interested, and I’ll get in touch with them, just to make sure they’ve got enough supplies for all of us (though they didn’t seem to think that would be a problem). Drug use in and around this park is prevalent. This might be a bit of a challenging action for some, and we should all know what we’re getting into. However, I personally believe that makes this action all the more valuable.

According to a city worker we spoke with today, OG Plaza is actually the only place still receiving city-paid custodial attention. Otherwise, there are no city employee litter pickers at work in Oakland (though there is a privately held company that cleans up on and around Broadway). So have no fear. There is plenty of work out there for us to do.

Please respond here if you’re interested in working this weekend, so I can get a number to them. We’ll have an e-mail address and a real list serve shortly.
